created for Art 370, intermediate drawing
I was influenced at the time to think of the object that I was creating, not just the two-dimensional image--this was the second of two pieces formed along the same lines of method, material, and feeling, with the other more of a rough draft to this.
Both works were created as a kind of emotional catharsis--they were likened to animistic fetish objects, created to contain potent, often harmful energies, and then destroyed. The difference is that we Americans like to display our angst vessels.
The process of collage works well for me, both for my desire to draw relationships between already existing elements, as well as satisfying my impatience at seeing something coalesce.
